Article development and article creation for Vox Media
Challenge
Vox Media’s representation on Wikipedia was lacking: inaccurate, incomplete, and failed to give readers a correct impression of the brand and its properties.
Solution
Beutler Ink conducted a detailed audit to set a blueprint for content development, then researched, wrote, and conducted outreach to place new material, including creating two new pages on subjects meeting Wikipedia’s inclusion requirements.

Our Process
Vox Media sought out Beutler Ink to help improve multiple pages covering its brands and key people. The Vox Media corporate article included incorrect information, lacked citations, and failed to adequately represent the company’s activities. Furthermore, several pages about editorial brands were outdated, and they also wanted our guidance to determine whether additional pages could be created. Vox Media understood the need to be transparent in its Wikipedia interactions but not the actual method of practice, which Beutler Ink helped them learn and later follow.
The project began with a deep dive audit to provide Vox Media with a detailed assessment of its corporate profile and other pages of interest. Beutler Ink recommended specific updates to the Vox Media article, including verifying information about the company’s history and expanding subsections about its media properties. We also recommended updates and corrections to several Vox Media brands, journalists, and executives. Our evaluation also showed that two key topics met Wikipedia’s requirement for standalone entries: Eater and Melissa Bell.
Over the next several months, Beutler Ink worked in close collaboration with Vox Media communications team, who provided guidance on content as Beutler Ink researched sources, wrote new material, and worked transparently with the Wikipedia community to place new content. Vox Media learned much from its collaboration with Beutler Ink, and in subsequent years returned to its topic pages to propose additional changes following the playbook Beutler Ink drew up for them.
Before & After
The Vox Media infobox was updated and improved for improved accuracy, the introduction section expanded to be more informative, and the History section expanded, restructured with subsections for easier readability.
