Collaborating with Mayo Clinic to update and expand their Wikipedia article
Challenge
Mayo Clinic has relied on Beutler Ink to make sure Wikipedia accounted for its accomplishments and reflected its ongoing story. Our work with Mayo Clinic began with an audit of the medical center's Wikipedia presence and mapping out future development on the encyclopedia. Afterward, we worked with Mayo Clinic to correct inaccuracies, update its history and operations, and improve the citations used in the article. Later, Mayo Clinic sought our expertise again to focus on changes to its operations and contributions to medicine and science, among other topics.
Solution
Beutler Ink worked with Wikipedia’s editors to make improvements to Mayo Clinic’s article, and worked collaboratively with the Wikipedia community to reach consensus for changes. At the end of our engagement, we provided educational tools so Mayo Clinic could continue posting requests to improve Mayo Clinic-related Wikipedia articles in the future.

Our Process
Beutler Ink audited Mayo Clinic’s Wikipedia page, identifying opportunities to correct errors and add new sections. We guided Mayo Clinic through making these updates over the course of our initial engagement and, once completed, Mayo Clinic returned to us to continue with additional article improvements. Further areas of focus have included updates related to their operations, contributions to medicine, and other accomplishments.
Before & After
At the beginning of our engagement, Mayo Clinic’s contributions to medicine and science were distributed throughout several areas of the article. When we finished, many of these contributions were consolidated into one area, and reframed as a detailed history of Mayo Clinic's contributions to further the development of medicine and patient care.
