Here's to 2021 to Come

Do you feel like reliving 2020? Neither do we.

Since 2013, we've ended every year with an illustrated collage recapping the past twelve months of news, culture, sports, and entertainment. It's been a tremendously fun project for us and one that has really found an audience online. We get emails from across the globe asking about our next installment and offering suggestions for depictions.

Thanks to the great artists we've worked with over the course of the series, we've always been able to produce graphics that felt playful and lighthearted even when we had to grapple with serious subjects. But, to be frank, doing a "Here's to…" recap for 2020 didn't feel like a fun endeavor. It's not that the past year has been all bad. But the contrast between fleeting moments of joy and the ever-present backdrop of dread felt stark, and we worried that producing something irreverent could be perceived as insensitive.

So instead of looking back, this year we decided to look ahead. And after really digging into forecasts for 2021, we found no shortage of reasons to be hopeful.

Here's to 2020

Again, we know that people really enjoy our usual year-end illustration and that many of you will be disappointed we didn't produce another one. But hopefully by next December we'll have countless fun things to look back on.

Excelsior!
